I Am

I Am

I am a woman with much to share and much to say as long as the topic is not mundane, political, or one of a concentration on the ego. Oddly enough, I didn’t start out as one to talk a lot, in fact I was very much the intorvert, shy beyond comprehension and determined to hide in corners where ever possible. I was born in Jamaica 55 years ago, spent my teenage years there and migrated to the US in 1985, taking with me as much of my culture as I could harness and all of my foundation. Without that, I wouldn’t be this woman, I wouldn’t understand the place I stand in now or the reasons I stand here. My journey has not only been a physical dislocation but a spiritual, emotional and sometimes turbulent one.

Writing has always been my true outlet. I have done a lot of writing; in school, anthologies, critiques, poems etc., but left them in context. I venture out of context now and will write as I feel, no bounderies or reason, just for the width and breadth of it.  I look at life in all the small places, the in-betweens and the connections, and that’s where I find my inspiration. I venture to share now the things I see and feel, the questions I ponder and the glimpses of  life in its true form that formulate themselves into words for me. They take the way of  Why, How, Where and What If, most times, sometimes a stimulant not just for me but for those with whom I share these observatons. My hope is I can share with my readers what I have kept close for so long and that somewhere you will connect to a word, a phrase, a vision that will contribute to the universal life of that thread. Welcome, and thank you for coming along on my journey.
